I used to keep a small school of these, but no breeding. Would assume the water was too hard. From what I have read they will spawn in clean, soft water. Other recommendations are to have a dark colored substrate, temperature 80-90 Deg F, and no egg stealing tankmates. Eggs are dropped into the substrate during a spawn and hatch about 3 days later.

Thanks for the info. That temperature is almost like bath water. Got soft water from my shallow water well. We'll see what happens!

My father had a pair drop eggs in the water but they were eaten before they hit the substrate. That pair was over 4 years old. Tank water was around 80 degrees F. No success in hatching due to tankmates.

Well, not good. My mbuna addiction had left me with one large Silver Dollar that my wife sold last week. The guy called three days later and said it didn't make it. So much for that endeavor. Still have the Ikola colony spawning, as Heather knows from the other forum, and that should keep me busy for a long time. Looking at some RR's at ther moment. Evil addiction, this hobby is!
Thanks for the spawning info though, will lock it up in this thing I call a brain.LOL
